Capabilities

Why choose RAIVENS Handheld POS Machines

Built-in thermal printer

Prints receipts, mini statements and collection slips on the spot, so every customer leaves with a paper record.

Card and NFC acceptance

Reads chip and magnetic-stripe cards and accepts contactless cards and phones over NFC, depending on model and payment app.

Optional fingerprint sensor

Adds national ID-based biometric authentication for cash withdrawals, account opening and other agent-banking services.

4G and Wi-Fi

Runs on mobile data in the field and switches to Wi-Fi at the counter. Bluetooth connects accessories where fitted.

QR and barcode scanning

The camera reads payment QR codes and bill barcodes, which speeds up entry and cuts typing errors.

Location on every transaction

Built-in satellite positioning lets the agent app geo-tag each transaction in the field, on models that include it.

Your app, preloaded

The bank's or BC's agent app can be preloaded and locked in, with an SDK for the printer, card reader, scanner and fingerprint sensor.

Field-ready battery

A rechargeable battery and one-hand form factor suit doorstep visits, market rounds and places without mains power.

What are handheld POS machines for banks?

Handheld POS machines for banks are portable Android terminals that let an agent or field officer deliver banking services anywhere. One device authenticates the customer, completes the transaction and prints the receipt. The RAIVENS Handheld POS combines a touchscreen, a built-in thermal printer, card and NFC acceptance, an optional fingerprint sensor, and 4G and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Banks, Business Correspondents (BCs) and agent-banking networks use the terminals for cash in and cash out, account services and bill payments. Merchants use the same hardware to accept card, contactless and QR payments.

Why handheld terminals matter for agent banking

Branches and ATMs are expensive to extend into thin markets. A trained agent with a handheld terminal brings basic banking to a shop, a market stall or a customer’s home. The device has to do several jobs at once: verify identity, connect over mobile networks, print proof of the transaction and keep working away from a power socket. A handheld POS does all of this in a device that fits in one hand.

Typical services on one terminal include:

  • cash deposit and cash withdrawal
  • balance inquiry and mini statement
  • account opening with biometric verification
  • bill payments and mobile top-ups
  • loan repayments and microfinance collections
  • card, contactless and QR payments for merchants

Key capabilities and options

Configure each terminal for the services your agents offer:

Option Typical choice When you need it
Fingerprint sensor Built-in optical sensor Biometric cash withdrawal and account opening
Card reader Chip and magnetic stripe Debit card services and merchant sales
NFC Contactless cards and phones Tap-to-pay and contactless cards
Printer 58 mm thermal Receipts, mini statements, collection slips
Connectivity 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Field rounds and counter use
Location Satellite positioning Geo-tagging transactions in the field

The camera reads payment QR codes and bill barcodes, and the terminal can display QR codes for instant QR payments such as UPI, PIX, PayNow and similar real-time payment schemes, where the bank’s app supports them.

Built for banks, BCs and merchants

Banking terminals need more control than a consumer phone. Raivens can preload the bank’s or BC’s app, lock the terminal to permitted apps and supply an Android SDK for the printer, card reader, scanner and fingerprint sensor. Each terminal is recorded by serial number from factory test onward, so it can be mapped to an agent and SIM and traced through complaints and replacements.

For desktop BC points, pair the terminal with a USB GPS receiver for geo-tagging and a fingerprint scanner. For shop counters, a payment soundbox announces each QR payment aloud.

Integration and support

Raivens designs electronics, firmware, apps and cloud software in-house, which keeps integration in one team. Engineers help connect your app to the device SDK, test on sample units and plan the rollout. Every terminal is factory-tested before dispatch, and the results stay on record against its serial number for later support. Fleet tracking, self-test and monitoring dashboards are covered in hardware and software technologies for banks and BCs. To discuss models, options and volumes, contact our team.

Use cases

Where it makes a difference

Agent banking points

BC agents handle cash deposits, withdrawals, balance inquiries and mini statements at a counter or doorstep, with a printed receipt every time.

Doorstep and village banking

Field staff open accounts and serve customers who cannot reach a branch, using fingerprint authentication over mobile data.

Loan and microfinance collections

Collection agents record repayments, print receipts on the spot and sync each entry to the lender's system.

Bill payments and top-ups

Agents and shops collect utility bills and mobile top-ups by scanning the bill barcode and printing a confirmation.

Merchant payment acceptance

Retailers, delivery teams and pop-up stores accept card, contactless and QR payments wherever the customer is.

FAQ

Handheld POS Machines: common questions

What is a handheld POS machine used for in banking?

In banking, a handheld POS machine lets an agent or field officer deliver branch services away from the branch. Typical services are cash deposit and withdrawal, balance inquiry, mini statements, account opening, bill payments and loan collections, each confirmed with a printed receipt. The RAIVENS Handheld POS runs the bank's or BC's own Android app and adds card, NFC and fingerprint options, so one device covers most agent-banking services.

Can the handheld POS authenticate customers by fingerprint?

Yes, on models fitted with the optional fingerprint sensor. The sensor captures the customer's fingerprint for national ID-based biometric authentication, which many agent-banking services use instead of cards or PINs. Where a terminal has no built-in sensor, an external USB fingerprint scanner can connect over OTG. Raivens supplies both options and the SDK your app needs to call the sensor and receive a secure capture.

Which payment methods can the handheld POS accept?

Depending on model and payment app, the terminal reads chip and magnetic-stripe cards, accepts contactless cards and phones over NFC, and scans or displays QR codes for instant QR payments such as UPI, PIX, PayNow and similar real-time payment schemes. The bank or payment processor decides which schemes are switched on. Raivens configures the hardware options to match the services you plan to offer.

Can we install our own agent-banking app on the terminal?

Yes. The terminal runs Android, so your existing agent or merchant app can run on it after integration with the device SDK for the printer, card reader, scanner and fingerprint sensor. Raivens can preload the app before dispatch, lock the terminal to permitted apps only and help your developers test on sample units. Custom app development is also available if you do not have an app yet.

Does the handheld POS need Wi-Fi to work?

No. The terminal connects over 4G mobile data with a SIM card, so agents can work in markets, villages and homes without Wi-Fi. At a counter with Wi-Fi it can switch to the local network. Receipt printing works without a connection, while whether transactions can be queued offline depends on the banking app. Raivens helps match SIM, network and app settings to your coverage.

How are large fleets of POS terminals managed?

Each terminal has a unique serial number recorded from factory test to dispatch and mapped to an agent and SIM. App updates and configuration changes can be pushed remotely, and complaints, returns and replacements are tracked by serial number. Raivens can connect this to its lifecycle management and monitoring dashboards, so operations teams see every terminal's status, location and service history in one view.

What paper does the built-in printer use?

The built-in printer uses standard thermal paper rolls, typically 58 mm wide, which need no ink or ribbon. Thermal receipts suit transaction slips, mini statements and collection receipts. Store rolls away from heat and direct sunlight, because thermal paper darkens when warm. Raivens can advise on roll sizes for your model and on printing longer documents, such as account statements, through the agent app.
